A Special Savannah Visit for Girl Scout Troop 11, Ft. Worth, TX

Septuagenarian Girl Scouts Leave Behind Inspiration at Zeigler House Inn

SAVANNAH Georgia (April 26, 2013) -- This past weekend I had the pleasure and honor of hosting Girl Scout Troop 11 from Ft. Worth, TX.  What makes this group of Girl Scouts so special?
  • Well let’s start with the fact they are all celebrating their 70th birthdays this year and their 64th reunion.
  • This amazing group of ladies has been together since first grade. There were 19 originally, now there are 16.
  • They all started out as Brownies in 1949.
  • They stayed together ‘til they graduated high school in 1961.
  • They have not only remained friends through all these years, they have all stayed in touch and active with the Girl Scouts.

Annually, the ladies all try to get together as a group to reconnect and reminisce about their days as scouts. This year, wonderfully, 12 of them chose Savannah and Zeigler House Inn as their destination.  There could not have been a better choice than Savannah, the birthplace of Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts and the location of the very first Girl Scout troop.

A Mini La Pastisserie Magasin [Pastry Shop] at Zeigler House Inn in Savannah, Georgia USA

Pastries at Zeigler House Inn:
Brownies with Chocolate Ganache and Fruit Tarts
SAVANNAH Georgia (April 24, 2013) – Zeigler House Inn has the flair of a European small hotel with French named rooms* and a dining sideboard of la patisserie style desserts.

One guest in sock feet ventures down the vintage mahogany and heart pine staircase, out to appease his pastry craving. “The scene is reminiscent of Christmas when the youngster tip-toes down the magnificent staircase, taking a peek for Santa. It’s a scene that will play out multiple times during the day and night over the guest’s stay,” says innkeeper Jackie Heinz.

It’s a happy moment, too, for Jackie – a caterer turned innkeeper. She is seated in the parlor, quietly smiling as she witnesses pure joy from her executive guest. Like so many loyal guests, this executive–turned-child again has found a new favorite vacation spot.

“I see you enjoy almond. I think you’ll love what I’m baking for you tomorrow,” Jackie teases. Her reassurances are those of a doting neighbor, who just so happens to be a professional baker with a passion to please.

SAVANNAH Georgia (April 6, 2013) – From our Savannah bed and breakfast inn‘s point of view, the Georgia Historical Society’s archive of vintage Savannah photographs offers sweet flashbacks to treasured, bygone days in Savannah.

These snippets, too, point to some of the best things to do and the best places to go for even a mini-vacation Savannah trip today. We selected a few dated in July and August, summer months in Savannah.

We hope you’ll enjoy this memory walk!

Spree or Score! Budget Friendly Ideas of Things to Do in Savannah from Zeigler House Inn B&B

SAVANNAH, Georgia (March 31, 2013) -- In the new April 2013 issue of Southern Living, Savannah gets a big nod in the magazine’s “High-Low Guide”.  The travel guide gives Savannah tourists suggestions on how to enjoy what our historic city has to offer, no matter what your budget.

Innkeeper Jackie Heinz, Zeigler House Inn,
Savannah Georgia USA
While I applaud Southern Living’s selections, I thought I would add a few of my own. The magazine offered leisure budget terms “Splurge and Steal”.  I decided to use “Spree and Score!” for leisure activities in Savannah, GA.

Eat:

Spree: I have a list of four fine dining restaurants that fit the category -- Noble Fare, Alligator Soul, Sapphire Grill, and Local 11 Ten. These downtown Savannah restaurants offer dining experiences and cuisine that feature local fresh ingredients, prepared by truly gifted chefs. The price tag may be a bit more, but it is worth every penny. And, you’ll enjoy every delectable bite.
